1-800-Tech-Support is a web series about tech support workers in the web hosting industry. The series is based on a short film called “The Night Shift” that was created for the National 48 Hour Film Challenge. The original story was about Tom, played by Matthew Jasso and Joel, played by Christian Martinez who is two idiots that work the night shift tech support for a hosting company. During one of their shift a vampire (Christina McFarland) infiltrates the office going on a feeding spree. They survive the night by Tom’s younger sister (Raven Washburn) who kills the vampire at the last moment before she attacks Tom and Joel. Unfortunately, the short film was not turned in on time and was disqualified from the competition.
After creating a rough script for a feature length version of the The Night Shift, creator Travis Thomsen decided to turn the short film into a 12 episode web series. Actors Matthew Jasso (Tom), Christian Martinez (Joel), and Jason Lee Boyson (Mike the boss) from the original short film rejoined the cast. Whitney Hoy, who will be featured on Friday Night Lights this coming February has joined the cast as Erica the third night shift support tech. Raven Washburn will also be taking up her role of Holly, Tom’s ninja clad baby sister.
The 1-800-Tech-Support series is targeted for release on January 6, 2009.
